Tax relief

Tax relief for a spouse living outside Ireland

A person who is a tax resident in Ireland may apply for a marriage relief if a spouse resides in other country. The relief applies even when a spouse receives an income in that country – naturally the condition is the amount of the income.

According to the provisions on tax aggregation in EU countries, a taxpayer whose spouse resides outside Ireland, during a year will have a tax charged according to reliefs of a single state person. Upon presenting proper documentation they may try to get tax refund even up to the amount of €1,650 for each year.
